Huawei today unveiled the Honor VR Camera, a 360-degree camera that plugs directly into your smartphone. Right now, we know it works with Huawei’s own phones, but it’s unclear whether third-party offerings will also be compatible. Stay tuned.
The VR Camera can shoot in up to 3K resolution and is made thanks to a partnership between Huawei and Insta360. An app built by the latter will allow you to share 360-degree videos, while live streaming and saving of your videos will also be supported. And of course, since the camera’s called the Honor VR Camera, you’ll be able to watch your creations in a virtual reality headset such as Google Cardboard or a Daydream View.
Pricing isn’t confirmed for the accessory either, but we may learn more at MWC 2017. With VR growing and growing each day, it’s nice to see a portable consumer-friendly offering for shooting VR-ready content prepare to hit the international market. This way, you won’t be required to use something like the Samsung Gear 360 to shoot 360-degree content.
