It’s probably Earth’s biggest first-world problem: non-skippable ads before a video. We’ve all seen them, we all hate them. Now, Google appears to be doing something about it by not allowing advertisers to feature unskippable 30-second spots on their video sharing platform YouTube from next year. The company broke the news to Campaign.
Google explained that its aim is to provide a better advertising experience for online users. “As part of that, we’ve decided to stop supporting 30-second unskippable ads as of 2018 and focus instead on formats that work well for both users and advertisers.”
Unfortunately, this news doesn’t apply to ads shorter than 30 seconds, which means all 20-second ads will remain unskippable alongside those 6-second banner ads which, by the way, Google’s gonna start forcing down viewer’s throats. Still, at least those ads that seem to last a lifetime will be skippable soon.
