Apple’s Planet of the Apps was originally announced back in July of last year. Its premise is basically the following: app developers compete on a show much like The Voice to gain mentorship from four “advisors” who are the equivalent of sharks on Shark Tank and hopefully impress a major media brand similar to how you’d introduce yourself to The Bachelor or Bachelorette in order to score $10 million to further develop their project. And now, the series has a trailer originally premiered at Recode’s Code Media conference and is viewable below.

Planet of the Apps has a different feel to it when compared to other shows. Instead of simply walking into the room, you’ll ride down an escalator where, during that time, you’ll have 60 seconds to pitch your idea and see who’s interested in picking it up. You’ll be able to tell since the advisors will either swipe left or right on an iPad, similar to how Tinder works. If multiple advisors are interested, you’ll have to choose the one you wanna work with.

To me, it seems Apple took chunks out of multiple television shows and app concepts and turned them into their own series. I’m not saying this is a bad thing, but it’s definitely not the most creative show on the (dare I say it?) planet.

Apple executive Eddy Cue and Propagate Content’s Ben Silverman said during the Code Media conference that Planet of the Apps would debut this spring as an Apple Music exclusive.
