Huawei today finally unveiled their anticipated new handset called the Mate 9. This smartphone brings plenty of powerful specs to the table alongside a pretty sleek design that totals the entire package up to €699 (about $776.56 in USD). The device will be released in China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Thailand, and United Arab Emirates at launch and will eventually make its way into the States.
Starting with the design, Huawei went with an all aluminum body with an anodized finish. Color options include Space Gray, Moonlight Silver, Champagne Gold, Mocha Brown, and Ceramic White, while a case or skin attached to this guy may be a good idea since it’s bound to be extremely slippery.
Spec wise, a pretty massive 5.9-inch Full HD display is mounted to the front, while 2.5D glass covers the front of the Mate 9. Inside, there’s an octa-core Kirin 960 processor paired with a Mali-G71 MP8 GPU and i6 co-processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of base-line storage, a dual-camera system with a 20MP main shooter and 12MP secondary shooter paired with a feature called “Hybrid Zoom” (similar to how Apple utilizes the dual-camera setup on the iPhone 7 Plus by making zooming into subjects possible without loss of quality) and a front-facing shooter of 8MP, a nice and hefty 4000mAh battery, a USB-C port on the bottom, Android Nougat, Bluetooth 4.2, and a fingerprint sensor on the back. Overall, this entire package of specifications looks promising. On paper, it justifies it’s near-$800 price point, but real-world performance will ultimately determine this.
For those of you who like living really classy lifestyles, you’re in luck as Huawei has teamed up with Porsche to bring consumers a special Porsche Design Edition of the Mate 9. This brings to the handset a smaller 5.5-inch QHD display, 6GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. Otherwise, all the other specs remain the same. A special design not very distant from the standard Mate 9’s encloses these specifications, while only Porsche Design Stores starting this December in Europe will carry the special handset. €1,395 (about $1,544) is the price, so if you’ve gotta have the best-of-the-best constantly, you’re gonna need some cabbage.
Oh, and that Porsche model isn’t coming to the US in case you were wondering.
